Windows 11, due out later this year, is full of new features, including a new Start menu that's been moved to the center and a Microsoft Store with Android apps. In an exclusive interview, WSJ’s Joanna Stern spoke with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about the software, the influence of the pandemic and his strategy of competing with Google and Apple. • Hello! An earlier version of the closed captions incorrectly transcribed Mr. Nadella’s name. We have corrected this.

    • ok

    • Proud to be an Indian🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🙏🙏. The CEO of Microsoft is Indian his name is Mr. Satya Nadela 🙂

    • Que pasa con la fecha otra vez repitiendo que pasa con el control de seguridad repitiendo el año en el mundo fallo la seguridad de Microsoft 2021 otra vez fecha correcta 2030 2035

    • last time I checked, Poojeets didn't start a software mega corporation in 1975, so to me, he isn't working for the benefit of the people, not even his "street defecating" people because he isn't in Pooland. And no, I'm not white, I'm not a gringo.

    • Someones not getting an interview with this guy again...very misleading. Cant cut certain parts of the interview together to create your own story. I say it again WSJ is nearly the worst news company in the world. On par with Russian propaganda Id say

  • Windows is most open system. Windows forces me to use Bing and Microsoft Edge everytime. 😂😂😂

  • And new way you will experience BSOD

  • No tough questions...

  • I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and I am quite surprised how effortless and bug free the upgrade process was! Maybe it's because I'm upgrading a system that I custom built. Last time when I upgraded a prebuilt system to Windows 10 right when it came out that was a mess!

  • Now when I saw who is the charge of this windows madness, I understood why it is so complicated and gay... And why it takes so much energy for the simple tasks. Real man needs a control over the stuff, not some idiot proof, oversimplified version for morons. When I had win98se I knew when I got a virus, because I knew what should and shouldn't work in that moment

  • Probably the worst interviewer! Lack of respect! Just look at her face whilst questioning, so condescending and grumpy!!! He is there at the realm because of his hardwork! Show some respect!!

  • It'a just an OS. Stop making it more than it should be. Let it run apps thats it.

  • I hate centred menus. In center there should be the content that matter to me. (Example is implementation of widgets). For example some webpage that i have opened, some file that i am viewing. Not the list of icons that obstruct my view of content. It should always be in side. I also hate curves, cursor locking on corner to resize is a bit tedious.

  • what do you mean “where it has always been” . 10 years is a long time to not have something? Windows didn’t have a start button AT ALL for a whole decade,

  • Have you guys bought all the virus creators or can we get pentagon firewalls for a very basic user …I am sick buying antivirus….all bog the downs…a very very basic user…after a power supply failed in a pc 25 years ago

  • Proud to be an indian 🇮🇳

  • I watched this video for only 50 seconds so far and very impressed by it. From user experience standpoint, this window 11 makes more sense than previous version. Good job window

    • Yeah, good job Microsoft for arbitrarily locking out PCs built two years ago from upgrading, good job on enforcing heavy handed security measures that nuke performance, and good job making it a massive pain in the rear to set a web browser other than Edge as the default.

  • Windows 11 sucks and all old windows suck Mac all the way 👍😀

  • As always, Microsoft has issued another half-baked product that is having so many issues. I guess Satya has no clue of what his subordinates are actually doing at work.

  • Windows 11 The most piece of sh**. you almost out of business

  • This guy was so focused on 'centred', he forgot about battery life. Maybe a time away from Cortana jokes will do the work?

  • Windowsfx 11 is full version of Windows 11, it just doesn't require TPM 2.0 and Secure boot. Even the control panel is identical and runs EXE and MSI applications. It only needs a processor core and 2GB of ram to run fast. See for yourself: ilaward.info/the/wyd-w/lnp9r56YnKzapaA

  • Been using MacOS and Linux as well as Windows. Most people hate Windows mostly because that's the only OS they've used, mostly on low end machines and blame their bad hardware related issues on the OS... I can say that MacOS isn't really better than Windows, in fact its worse in a lot of ways. And Linux is downright useless on a home computer for average user.

  • Will next Apple's CEO would also Indian ? 😂

  • good joob Satya Nadella

  • Nadella? What kind of name is that 🤔

  • hi can you change the minum requirments in win 11 to be lower Microsoft please

  • First improve the troubleshooter. It brings troubles than shooting them.

  • I Wonder if you guys are familier with ecosytem

  • Before even we launch any thing make sure the things are in place

  • After upgrading to windows 11 my keyboard stopped working....

  • Taskbar notifications not opening, click on notification nothing happens ?

  • Apple was wise to come out with an update to their operating system that's mostly a refinement with no significant changes. Microsoft, on the other hand, chose again to mess with the start menu during a pandemic (even taking away some functionalities). You can always tell who's learned their lessons and who haven't.

  • update: cosmetics are all bold

  • It's like a ugly version of gnome :-)

  • The 'New' start of the PC takes 2 seconds to show the menu when Right Clicked🙂

  • as he said everything is center they have even put the clock in the center ruining my lockscreen wallpaper

  • Apple increases their systems by 300X performace, windows... moves start button to middle.

  • I like this guy. 👌

  • The PC won't ever be the center. The smartphone is and will remain so until something like AR disrupts them.

  • HI Mr Satya Nadella. Sorry to say that... whatever you are talk, but not keeping on the user exp in your mind, I think just you are having bizz mind, but how to solve the user problems? do you have any solution?

  • using more RAM after upgrade win11? has this been tested properly and reviweded? :) it might be good, but make sure the upgrade might impact on user's working apps. I hope MS, keeps user impacts before releasing any such future upgrade. It really impacted my all day to day operations due to this upgrade ... I have to forcefully revert back to Win10. FYI - before the win11 upgrade, my Laptop used just 10% to 15% RAM when I start my system, but after the upgrade it issued 45% minimum RAM after the win11 upgrade. It's worst of me to use OS, for my day-to-day task. My working apps are needed in 20% to 30% RAM usage overall it will be used during win10 it was 40% RAM to 55%RAM. But now it is getting used after starting laptop around 45% to 55% RAM without opening my working Apps. When I started the MS team and other apps, it is using more RAM about near to 85% to 99% of RAM, during this period the laptop become slow. Do you have any solutions for this? Thank you, MS team.

  • rudest interviewer ever

  • the system looks they're copying Android

  • I dunno but this guy talks a bit like Bill Gates. Maybe it's why he's now the King of Microsoft.

  • The new ui is so unintuitive! This guy just dumbed down the os and made it look like a mac! I don't understand how people are supporting this! I just upgraded to windows 11 and set my start button back to left and fiddled the registry to get the old right click context menu back!!! Uhh... What is happening to humanity!

  • “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

  • When I worked at Oracle, we had a saying: "We ship junk, but we ship it on time." True for all software companies.

  • Old computer 👌💀😭

  • Love Bill gates!!

  • What about trash cortana and add google assistance

  • 👏 Tech Translation

  • Well described !…

  • this guy is weird,

  • macOS us still better than Windows 11 ui.

  • Windows 11 is awesome!

  • All this does is makes me want to switch to Linux.

  • I am so relived they finally moved the start menu to the center...that was just killing me having it on the left.

  • Windows 10 is the last op, so why are we getting windows 11? Mac sounds good

  • Terrible interviewer! Her questions are unrefined. And... she wants CEO of Microsoft to hum the start sound?

  • FORCING YOUR BROWSER ONTO USERS OVER THERE DEFAULT BROWSER IN ORDER TO BUMP USER NUMBERS NOPE EDGE SUCKS!!

    • Same thing with chrome. I use edge and I see switch to chrome apps. Mozilla fire fox is the best though because it's super fast.

  • "It's centred on you." *_me moving it back to its rightful position, which is to the left_ *

  • 2:20 seems a lot like the one in windows 10 but more invasive and has a Bing search engine.

  • I’m sorry, windows 11 is comparable to modern art painting, it’s overrated, lacks any customization for the user, and not accessible to everyone. This version is as bland as bowl of Cheerios when it comes to user customization. Windows 11 is a downgrade that forces you to use their application and search engine. I lost some FPS in my games and application open noticeably slower.

  • Linux here we come

  • 0:49 : "He wants windows 11 to be a compelling choice for people who dont wanna live exclusively and either" Tpm 2.0 & Sickening spec requirement: WELL IT'S ALREADY EXCLUSIVE 😜

  • Well this is just beginning of copy macOS style to Windows, just look at their icons and the GUI you will know. this is nothing new..this is just like samsung copied Apple iPhone design..

  • Its centre 😂

  • me watching this on windows 11 be like

  • Tik Tok, is just an app which connects to the tik tok web, i do not see why it is called an android app. Instagram app the same, they all connect to the web version. It doesnt actually runs APK files, as I can see. Am I wrong?

  • Microsoft "Windows 10 will be our last os" Me time to install Linux mint

  • There are currently more unsupported computers that don't meet the system requirements for windows 11 and I also looked into buying a new computer with windows 11 on it but there are no new computers available in any store like Walmart, BestBuy. Nothing is being manufactured right now so how are people suppose to upgrade if Microsoft is not putting the new computers out there?

  • Who's Bill Gates

  • Here's whats going to be different - if you don't have a computer built in the last few months it won't have TPM 2.0 which means you aren't guaranteed of important security updates. Wait you can always go back to a classic interface? So I won't need classic shell?

  • so much normie vibes in here? So start button in center, stacking and floating windows, mute button, android apps in store, my-phone app, included that's all windows 11 is they call this an "Innovation" - "Risk"/? dude Install Linux and change your window manager infinite times with infinite custom or pre-made themes. Instead of App-repository in Innovation? How whatever

  • As an Indian this is kinda funny to me. Two large American corporations competing (Windows and Chromebook). Both CEOs are Indian for some reason. While India rots in Asia, with brainwashed citizens who all think they should be proud of their country no matter what and should never criticize their own government. This pains me, but of course there some people who are not like this. Also sry for bringing politics into here lol

  • Unless they make local network file sharing easier to fix and working on first try im not doing win 11, never seen win version where that ever worked fine.

  • The beginning was so Apple...

  • 0:29 is it just for me or is the pause kinds cursed ..........

  • Not very excited to hear your regular stories. Just tell me one thing, have you solved the blue screen of death problem. If not, your old dead body with new make up is not so interesting....

  • blah blah blah, I don't care, I'll stick to windows 10. The only thing I think I would want is that Android apps thing.

  • Reject Microsoft. Come to TempleOS.

  • Am I the only one That is just seeing a Win10 with a different theme?

  • I would like Windows 12 to be on unix

  • Center is not workflow friendly. U can open menu just by throwing mouse to left bottom side and clicking .. when u center the start button u can’t do that anymore and u have to be conscious about clicking it in the right place !

  • Key take away, should remain open else will get isolated

  • Microsoft needs to learn a very old saying: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. We are not impressed!

    • But Windows is actually broken since vista

  • The same broken operating system, but with fancy theme and even more useless features

  • Such a good bald guy

  • I noticed that there was no mention in any of the clips that you showed about there being any support for linux users or being able to integrate linux programmes into the windows environment as well. I think that when it is officially released that I will be moving to a linux based system for one or two reasons but the most important one to me is that on linux, there will not be any spybots running around the system or taking up system resources and also the interface of linux systems are fully customizable whereas with windows, you are very limited in what you can do with customisation. Also, I am not prepared to spend an obscene amount of money on a new pc or laptop just so I can get the next windows iteration when I have a perfectly working laptop that can run windows 10 perfectly and the pre-release form of windows 11 without any trouble whatsoever. When they start bringing in restrictions where you can't run any windows system on any pc that you have is when I start looking for something different to use.

  • Hes not the ceo, bill gates is.

    • He is

  • I miss Bill

  • CENTER!

  • The Idea of Start Menu on the left side from beginning was a smart Idea, now in center it'll mess up later once people start using it

    • @Foad Ahadi And you should've comprehended my reply before flitting your fingers on the keyboard 😂

    • @Pranav Sharma read my comment forever

    • You do know that you can change the start menu back to the left side, right?

  • Centred on you so we can get more data on you...brilliant!

  • Originally coming from the UNIX world, i had to use Windows at work and because of that reason ran it on my private machine for decades. Recently i got so much annoyed by windows, that i finally switched to Linux MINT. This has now been two two years ago and i don't want to go back. Everythings is just working and so much simpler. Now i use Windows only at my workplace.

  • Should have called him from a MacBook for some good ol tomfoolery

  • All said it wont work on processors older than Intel 8th Gen, forcing people for an unneeded hardware upgrade and unwanted e-waste. Linux runs securely on older hardware. May be its time for people to switch to open and free software where users have more power not a prisoner of closed source OS let it be from any company. Linux Desktops have come a long way just people have to get out of their bad old habits.

  • This video made me install Arch Linux

  • Windows 11 best new feature? Microsoft will charge you for it...

  • its close to mac

  • No. I still want it on the left side. You are just copying Chome Book

  • Windows 11 removed taskbar and start menu customizability options. You can move to to the bottom left and keep it at bottom center. Previously it was possible to move taskbar to the left, top, right sides of the screens. This important feature was simply REMOVED in Windows 11.

  • Without watching the video, I can say windows 11 has to be the same junk that Microsoft has introduced to poor pc users.
