Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra - Camera First look and Pro Photographers Tips

פורסם בתאריך 15 ינו 2021
A quick video showing some photos and giving some tips how to take advantage of the new camera features of the S21 Ultra. The S21 has introduced new Zoom lenses, and while this is a quick first test of the S21, it shows how I go about shooting and shows some real world examples of the camera in the phone.

  • Finally a review with someone who actually uses the camera instead of comparing selfies and lightroom enhanced scenes

  • Hands down, incredible camera phone, but as a photographer do you regard these camera images as highly as images you'd capture with your Mirrorless or DSLR?

    • @Rob Mulally true. I’ve shot street photography with mid-range Samsung phones. I love how it is so portable yet still produce high quality images, on top of being just a powerful machine for everyday use, gaming which I get conscious doing now on my iPhone 11. This is my real dream phone the S21+/S21 Ultra.

    • The best camera is the one you have on you ;-) Ultimately these phones don't compare but are usually the only camera on you

    • well said

    • I don't compare them. For me Quality of the photo isn't measured in resolution is measured by the reaction people have to it, go pro , SLR, drone. Its what you take, how you take it , how you edit it and where you post it. Every camera has its limitations so best to master each so you are always prepared.

  • thank you ,thank you, we need a training course for this phone, I appreciate this because I am trying to get better a taking pictures, looking forward to other classes, stay bless

  • This phone’s cameras are the perfect example of “I don’t need it but I want it”. Great job Rob showcasing the fantastic quality here. I thought maybe there was an embargo on camera samples.

    • @Rob Mulally does the new Samsung have that softening of the skin tone that almost looks airbrushed in less than ideal lighting?

    • @Rob Mulally wow that’s good news. Hope to see more from your camera samples soon.😎

    • I have noticed more and more too.

    • True! and at the rate tech is released we have that feeling almost weekly now! I work closely with Samsung and I'm actually not aware of any camera samples embargo specifically just the first look and review/comparison distinction. Its a good point to raise. And I did ask before publishing just to be sure.

    • I thought so too but I've seen a lot of photo examples posted today so far hidden in peoples impressions videos

  • Finally! Someone who knows how to use the camera app properly! 👏 Keep the good work

    • Thats very kind thanks Dimitris

  • Good one mate 👍

    • @JTS lol sure

    • @SSaini I just got an system update on my S21 ultra and my pictures are awesome. I'm getting clear pictures at 100x now

    • @BITC0NNECT haha great username.

    • @SSaini they have but sadly this video is fake.

    • @Rob Mulally has Samsung fixed the blurry image capture with moving subjects?

  • Hi the wide lens is 24mm, and 3 times will be 72mm, not 26mm and 260mm.

  • Brilliant video. Liked and subscribed! You 'scratched the surface' quite deeply in that short space of time and explored some of the killer features already! It's great to get a pro photographer perspective who doesn't look down on the new smartphone tech and actually appreciates what it can do! Intelligent & incisive. Your channel deserves to keep on growing!

  • Great video! Really helpful as the main reason I'm considering buying the s21 ultra is for mobile photography. Does it only do the pixel binning down to 12MP for low-light images or all the time? (I.e. can you choose to capture 108MP images in other scenarios?). Also, do you have any examples of full-size sample images from the phone? Thanks!

  • Wow, so incredibly impressed! Not just with the quality of video/editing, but the way you used the phone and ideas you had for different compositions... Just very different from what most ILawardrs say, where they just dismiss a zoom lens because they'd rather have the ultrawide, or 'don't need to zoom'. Glad I found this video, subbed for more!

    • Oh hey! i'm Glad you found it useful!

  • 2:33 I can't believe that a phone can take night sight pics like this. I'm blown away by the details it put.

  • Tried to make this a little different with some shooting tips included. If that helps even 1 person I'll be happy! UPDATE: Sorry you tube hasn't processed the 4K footage just says pending no idea why! Edit Update to the Update looks like 4k is processed now.

    • @arvandvarahram i remember this. I used it quite a bit on my s6. So happy we have the option again.

    • @SSaini Yeah they talked about that in the Exynos 2100 talk at CES i think. and they are calling it the 108MP gen 2 chip so only some more testing will tell!

    • @Mario Baracus Ah cheers yeah i've seen a few guys doing it and thought it was cool!

    • Well be ready to be Happy! As an amateur photographer and photography as my passion, your tips will definitely help for capturing the whales at sunset 🐳 🌅, Aloha from Maui 🌴🤙🏽

    • So other than hardware, seems Samsung has made improvements to the image processing as well. Looks like low light and dynamic range capabilities are much better than last years S20 series.

  • Fantastic video man. I absolutely love what you said about the zoom being a compositional tool, not to just see things closer. Couldn’t agree more! I often use the 5x zoom on my note 20 ultra for that exact purpose, not just to zoom in to something to see it. But having the 3x AND the 10x on the s21 ultra is gonna be special, 5x zoom can sometimes be too much and then also too little. Can’t wait for my s21 ultra to arrive! Subbed to you man :)

    • @Rob Mulally ye 100% man. You definitely seemed to talk a lot of sense in this video, I related to a lot of it! Ye I think in ideal lighting they're perfect but because their apertures are normally much smaller it can be tricky in other than bright conditions! Really can't wait to get shooting with the ultra. Can you do anything on the macro mode? I don't think it's its too close, up to maybe 5cm? Just wondering if you've found it quite good? Supposedly it switches to it when you get closer to a subject.

    • Oh thanks yeah its great to meet like minded people via youtube ! and yeah optical zoom is a huge deal. I noticed they do really well in good lighting conditions and mixed as it gets darker so need to experiment more with whats going on there.

  • Thank you for this! Exactly what I needed to pull the trigger! I've been rocking the S10+ for 2 years now and I edit all my photos both mobile and my Fuji RAWS in LR mobile but the older processor is starting to show its age hope this new one speeds things up a little! Awesome video can't wait to see more content soon 👏🏻

    • Oh the s10+ is so good. But yeah the camera game has changed a lot since

  • Personally, Two years ago, when I traveled to Sydney with my family when I was 17 years old, I took a lot of pictures there at the Botanic Garden. This camera is better than iphone 12 pro max. Contrast and colour sense are really impoved than last year. Well made video and great job! Greetings from SK🇰🇷👍

  • Most comprehensive smartphone camera video I've seen so far. Its good to see someone who knows photography and how to take advantage of the phone's features.

  • Thank you! This is exactly what I’m looking for about 3x and 10x zoom usability. I’m debating between getting the plus or ultra.

  • Excellent overview. Appreciate how you recorded the screen at the same time so we can see how it all works in the UI.

    • Very welcome I'll try to always do that. Been a few requests for more so let me know if you have any questions

  • I just recently discovered your channel and I wanted to say thanks for your incredible and helpful videos. As a person who never had a regular point and shoot camera, I really appreciate what you have done for the cellphone camera community. Keep up the great work!

    • thanks i'll try to keep making more i have a lot of things i can teach from my face to face workshops i've done. keep the questions comming.

  • Subbed & Great videos! I love detailed specific videos like mathphotographer and now you! I am going to try out the S21 Ultra because I love zoom photography in my pocket, but I feel it is still behind The P40 Pro in both Hardware & Software. Smaller sensor, no RYYB sensor(s), no Multi Spectrum sensor. Software is also going to be hard to part with and the lack of; Pro Mode Raw zoom photo, Leica Monochrome modes, Light painting modes (real time), and Slow Motion 256x has insane quality with the RYYB sensor. Questions; Has Samsung added raw 108mp photos? Nightmode with all 4 cameras? ISO in picture mode still 6,400 (p40pro 409,600!)? THANK YOU!

  • I'm so happy you talked about using the telephoto lenses for composition purposes rather than zooming in purposes. 72mm is better (imo) to use for portraits and capturing people in pictures vs something like 24-26mm, or 50-55mm on most "2x" telephoto lenses.

    • @Rob Mulally I actually really like the 4x on the S20U. The focal length (103mm) & sensor size really allowed for some crazy natural bokeh from a smartphone despite the relatively slow lens (crazy for a smartphone lol). I really wish Samsung was less aggressive with the lens switching due to thinking an object is too close for focus on telephoto. I downloaded gcam on the S20U to force the telephoto lens and it can get QUITE close for the focal length.

    • yeah agree! its not mentioned enough so glad i'm not the only crazy photographer out there hehe, i think the 3x and 10x is goning to be great i must admit I did miss the 5x but i think thats because my mind has been trained for that distance.

  • Its crazy how a phone can capture such amazing photos. Especially in the night, Samsung did a really good job with the s21

  • Thank you for mentioning the zoom trick. I use it a lot. You do have to stand a fair bit away from your subject, but it works well. I can't wait to see what I can do with the 10x zoom.

    • Ahh cool! yeah im sure a lot do but I don't hear any youtubers talking about it so wanted to really point it out.

  • That was a great video with a lot of information that I didn't already know, without being repetitive and boring like a lot of basic phone videos are.. I've been using the S21 Ultra for about 5 weeks now. I was actually able to use it for some astrophotography and captured the best image of the Pink Super Moon in April 2021. I was able to get details of the moon that I have never been able to capture with any phone camera. I am also going to be trying to capture the milkyway and other Astronomy pictures.

  • For people like me who don't have a real camera, this is amazing! Digital zoom is almost always unusable! My next phone will probably be a S21 Ultra or Note 21 Ultra if it takes to another level!

    • Who says this isn't a real camera.... ?

  • Hi Rob, great video. Photography has been a hobby of mine for many years but I find the older I get the less inclined I am to carry my gear for long periods. I have the Canon 5D MKII which I will keep for local shooting and road trips. I'm hoping the Ultra will be a good solution for me when traveling, etc. Will also check out your backup video as the lack of SD card was a concern. Look forward to more of your videos on the S21 Ultra.

  • Thank you for a very informative video, I really appreciate it :) I do have a question though: How come it looks like, when viewing something through your phone on 1X optical zoom (i.e. no zoom) as if you are standing 20 feet back from where you are actually standing. You kind have to go up to 3X optical zoom, just to get to the same "position" as your eyes are, viewing the object that you are looking at through your phone. Why is this?

  • When all tech youtubers do the unboxing, here's one tech youtuber who jumps right away to camera review! 🥰👏👏👏

    • I just jumped into what I care about the most haha

  • Hi Rob, thank you for the tips. The Zoom lens usage for making items look closer was really helpful. It's been a couple weeks with the S21 and I'm not happy with low light portraits, is there anything I can do to improve my shots?

    • @Rob Mulally I was having dinner with a friend at dimly lit restaurant. I clicked a portrait shot of him and it was really grainy, also I don't know if this makes sense, his face looked a lot slimmer in an unnatural way.

    • Can you explain low light portraits? Where and how you are taking them? All low light is best done with main camera.

  • Really love your approach, mate! Showing people around the camera app, pro mode, tips, etc. It's different and great!

  • Excellent video, think you've just sealed the deal for me. I've been undecided about swapping my Note 10 plus for the S21 Ultra. Seeing your results with the camera ( which is important for me) has made my mind up. Long time since I've been to Sydney, wish I had the S21 Ultra then!

  • Awesome video..thanks for showing us the quality of camera comparison also with the zoom! Thats the main reason why I'm switching from S20 Ultra to the 21 because of the camera improvements!

  • This is easily the best first look on the camera. Great to get pro photographer's perspective. Looking forward to deep dive.

    • thanks year Its hard to know what to cover and good photos can take time so ! i'll do my best

  • Great video! I ordered the phantom black. I left Samsung years ago for Pixel which does and amazing job with camera and AI. I've been disappointed with them lately and was debating about switching back to Samsung but the S21 Ultra has me excited.

  • You have the only review where the reviewer actually knows *how* and *when* to use the camera features to unleash the camera's true potential. That cloud shot at 1:29 was so sick I really hope this review doesn't get lost in the sea of typical (and boring) tech reviews Good job man!!!

  • Hi Rob! Just found your channel, love it and subscribed! Quick question, I have an iPhone 11 now and thinking of switching to the S21 Ultra. The most important thing to me is camera video and pics because I have a daughter who does competition cheer where I video her performances. Setting is usually with parents standing in a dark area with the kids on a very bright light stage area anywhere from 10 feet in front of the parents to as far back as 50 feet. The iPhone 11 at 4K 60 is over exposed and requires a lot of post work to make look decent. Anyway would the S21 Ultra be much better in these conditions? Thanks!!

  • Have you noticed the grainy issue when moving around while filming 4k video? I've seen a few reports of this and also portrait mode making subjects overly soft looking.

  • Don't know if I said it before but as I watched this again tonight, there is so much for me to experiment with and learn. Love it, love my S21 Ultra and look forward to more of your teaching. /WRF

  • Hi,you are right about having an optical zoom with enough reach. Photography is a substractive art and and to express your creativity and compose properly without the need of cropping photos intensively,a long telephoto focal length is a must.

  • This is the best explanation I've seen of this phones camera(s) capabilities, brilliant, thank you. You've helped me make my purchasing decision a lot easier. I'm sold.

    • @Rob Mulally Yes, great tip on using the 10x zoom to make objects and people appear closer to each other than they really are. Often wondered how that was done.

    • Cheers peter thats a wonderful comment, I tried to do a little more than list features hopefully you took something away from it.

  • Very concise but understandable. Wow, one of the BEST reviews I've seen.

  • Hi Rob! Great review on the camera aspect and it's fab to FINALLY see someone detailing this feature down to the "T". 😄 I'm passionate about photography and want to get back into it again, yet I need to update my phone. I currently use an S7..😂 I notice i take more photos from my phone because A. I do not have a camera and B. I love the spontaneity of taking photos when you're out and about. With your experience with this S21 ultra phone and the S20 ultra, do you recommend one over the other? I agree that to work with the evolving technology with your passions can be more amazing and do things differently, however, better. Thank you and love your work and ILaward! Keep up the fab work!

    • @Rob Mulally It's me again. I do have photography questions! 1. As technology evolves on mobile phones, do you believe it's still relevant to buy a camera (I know it is best to as a professional photographer, and your video, "If I have a phone should I buy a camera", explains a lot; however, does improvement on phone cameras will make cameras obsolete in the future? - by the way, love how entertaining you make your videos). 2. Also in that same video, you explain the 5 reasons to buy a camera, do you think you can make videos to explain each of them with maybe examples? I find majority of people still struggle with these topics and are visual learners despite researching and reading online to understand them (myself included). 3. When does one know when to truly buy a camera vs using the mobile phone? 4. Overexposure/Underexposure, can some be acceptable as is without photo editing? I sometimes find, especially with sunsets or sunrise, you get quite an amazing take and dramatic lighting without the need to edit the image. Not sure if that's a personal preference. 5. Also what makes a really good composition and how much of it really matters - does it need to be perfect? I am still trying to understand this in photography even though I find some compositions I take or make (as an artist) seems good in my eye. Apologies for bombarding you and I hope this all makes sense. I'll definitely be back to ask away more when I am in question as I continue to experiment. Thank you again Rob! Excited for your next video! 😄

    • Thank you Rob and your insight are always helpful! Look forward to more of your videos and most definitely i will ask photography questions! It'll be great to learn from a professional and do things right! Bless the universe to have you share these with us. 💜

    • Yes the S20 was the first move to the new Camera sensor and I thinks Samsung learnt a lot of lessons which they applied in the Note20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra. If you can I would go directly to the S21, do let me know if you have any photography questions etc I do have plans for more videos soon so feel free to ask as many questions as you like!

  • Thank you for properly explaining all the features that the s21 ultra and how useful they really are. Expecially with the telephoto. I see so many ILawardrs saying that telephotos a are kind of useless and that the space zoom is a gimmick but I have an s20 "regular"where I can zoom up to 30x and I won't zoom fully 30x, I normally zoom 2-10x to use it for compositional reasons not for just wanting to see things far away. But yeah I feel like phone camera reviews are better said when a photographer is explaining it.

    • Thanks Dylan I always dislike when i hear that , i think the zoom is useful if the image quality is good enough to use and thats what the optical brings, but yeah I wanted to demonstrate that so others could see with their own eyes.

  • Really nice video and good tips for telephoto lens. I am really curious to know the performance of 10x optical. It is f4.9 so can you please comment on its quality indoors/low light? I tried it in Best Buy and was not that impressed. I see lot of grains in shot. It would help me make my decision based on your thoughts.

    • Yes tripod will help but its not essential I got some great results without it.

    • yeah low light needs more testing i found mixed results but want to wait for full review.

    • Yes 10x zoom definitely for outdoor or tripod use only. Basically this is 240mm optucal zoom equivalent. To make something like that with fast aparture you need huge lens.

  • Looking forward to getting this now and it's coming. One reason is I want to try this camera for astrophotography under extreme low light and test it against my Huawei p30pro. My passion for astrophotography with a smartphone is so high now that smartphones can match dslrs now. It's nice to know people like you can show how great these smartphone cameras are getting now and every body can have fun with these. I think real photography is all about the fun and excitement in getting great shots and s21 ultra looks great! Very enjoyable video from you showing how great this camera is and the fun too. Stay safe!

  • Finally a proper camera review of the S21 Ultra. I think I want one now.

  • Great video Rob best i've seen, would love to hear more about S21 Ultra's camera and more tips, definately going to buy the phone now and i hope to be able to perfect my picture taking. all the best.

    • I second that! 🙂👍

    • oh great well i'm keeping a list of suggestions so if you have anything you like taking photos of you want tips on let me know.!

  • Can you please do an updated video showcasing the use of the 3x and 10x telephoto lenses for portraits and framing options as everyone’s only focused on the zooming aspect for distance purposes?

    • @Rob Mulally ooh that will be dope. Just realized I also follow you on Instagram as well. I thought your work seemed familiar.

    • Sure can

  • Samsung should hire you. Great camera review. Very extensive well detailed explanation.

    • oh thanks! What a dream job that would be! I do work with them on a lot of projects we have a great relationship they are very supportive of creators.

  • Hi Rob, awesome video! Subbed! Would you look into doing a Pro mode video and basics of settings for different environments like landscape, night, portraits etc. Keep it up!

  • Finally! A legitimate review, this is the best (and most thorough and authentic) review I've seen and I went out and bought one for myself. Coming on the 9th of February, can't wait!!!

    • ahh how exciting, you going to take it somewhere fun to celebrate? sunset? sunrise?

  • Thank you for this video, Rob. I think it's about time that I upgrade from my Galaxy S8 and I've been holding back for something that I feel will hold up for the next 2 or 3 years. Before the Galaxy S8, I had the iPhone 4 if that gives you any idea on how often I upgrade to another phone. Since my current S8 is starting to develop issues with charging (I know replacing the charging port might fix my issues but I don't want to take my phone apart, lol) In your opinion do you feel that the Ultra will be worth the investment vs just the S21? I never thought I'd consider spending $1300 on a phone but I plan on using it for work, family photos, personal hobbies, and more. My pocket PC :-) My big thing is I want to make sure that Samsung will do its job in providing quality updates that will keep the phone running well for the years to come. Thanks again for this video and information.

    • Yeah that's how I think about it, as the little computer in my pocket. And how much I do in it. Really it's the most touched item I have used hours h Per day so if you work it out in dollars per hour it's pretty cheap haha. Maybe go-to a store if it's safe to do so and try them if you are not sure. So far I've been impressed with the pictures it's been taking I've noticed a few odd things with video but I'm guessing it's a software update needed. I'm impressed with how Samsung has embraced the android OS more and more over time.

  • Whoa I would love to see a video on that feature where you select two points for exposure. This is the first I've been hearing about it and that seems like a huge upgrade

    • For the nerds out there they will already know about there, there are a of camera options that samsung doesn't highlight but now they do via the UI so more people will find it! i'll do a video on pro more for sure! thanks for the comment.

  • Great video man! Would love your help with a couple questions A) Amazing camera but I seem to struggle taking pictures on it of my kid.. Seems like if he even moves a tiny bit then the photo is blurry, don't seem to have that issue with my iphone.. Any recommendations? B) If you just want to take the best quality image would you use the pro mode or the 108mp option?

  • Great focus on the camera! Thanks! Better then any big channel first impressions so far!

  • Great camera specific review. It's great that someone does a deep dive from a photographer's perspective.

    • @Rob Mulally Certainly more details than most popular tech reviewers. If you feel like you'd like to get into more detail (pun intended) then I'd definitely love to watch a video review like that.

    • Funny because i didn't feel like it was very deep.. just touched at the surface

  • Awesome review, finally someone doing and explaining what the s21 ultra lens could do. Thanks God bless

  • Coming from a galaxy S10, I was first sceptical to upgrade to the S21 Ultra seeing that the S20 Ultra was not as good as Samsung claimed during their S20 presentation back then and I was afraid this one wouldn'tbe any better. But since I could order the phone for halve of the retail price I just went ahead and pre-ordered it and man I'm glad I did! It's way better than expected. Camera is better such an improvement in comparison to my old S10, white balance, over exposure, soft selfies, night shot...all of that improved and I'm very happy Samsung has come this far with their camera technology addressing all the flaws from previous models. Have I mentioned how fantastic the screen and battery life are? Only thing I don't like is they got rid of the micro sd card storage and headphone jack. BTW I love this review, well done Sydney sider. G'day mate!

  • the cameras are really impressive woww

    • @Rob Mulally Thanks for the well put together review! What differences have you noticed since the software update?

    • yeah its gonig to be a lot of fun to play with and keep experimenting.

  • Great quality video, thank you for putting this together! 🤙🏾

  • Great video and very well enunciated . What he was saying matched what he's showing. Would love a series of little sessions from A-Z on the S21 Ultra. Again thanks much!

    • What do you feel that you don't know about the phone?

  • Thanks for the review. I got an s8+ so I can't wait to upgrade to this phone. I just had 2 concerns. 1)Seeing that there is no more SD cards, how many 108mp shots can you actually get in 128GB? (My guess is most users will not take many shots using that, for that reason lol) and 2)When you upload the shots to places like Instagram, don't they reduce the quality?

    • You will very rarely take a 108mp photo only special occasions. I made another video about my feelings of the sd card removal.

  • Great work on the video 👍 And thank you for highlighting the great camera features! Best video I have seen so far! I liked and subscribed 🙂

  • A comprehensive video from an actual photographers point of view instead of tech reviews blowing smoke up its ass and not showing really what it can do. Thanks so much for me man. Knowing the different focal lengths in mm is a huge help too as you can choose what to use accordingly

    • Glad you like it! Thanks for the kind comments

  • Great video, mate! Quick question about the shutter speed/moving images and people. Has it improved much from previous Samsungs? I love their cameras but the motion blur is my biggest issue with them, thanks!

  • New Brisbane based subscriber here .. that was a great in depth video and I love the fact that its coming from someone who's passionate about mobile photography. I've had the samsung s series phones since they came out. My current phone is the s10+ and this year I was due for an upgrade .. I wasn't impressed with the reviews on the s20 ultra's camera so I thought this might be the year I switch to another brand. I heard a few early reports that the camera on the s21 ultra was going to be a game changer so I took the punt and pre ordered on the morning of the phones release. Your video has me really excited about getting this phone .. those night shots were amazing and thats something I've already stuffed around with in pro mode on my s10+ .. anyway, enough rambling .. great channel and great content.

    • Ahh thanks Peter, well i'm always here if you have questions, in some of my other videos like the astro one i suggest a specific head for the phone to mount to a tripod, if you get serious about night photos that will really help. only so much we humans can be steady even with all the crazy technology.

  • Still the best upload about s21 ultra camera. Thanks dude.

  • This phone is capable in the hands of an expert. I like the results really its more than capable.

    • Cheers! glad you found it useful.

  • Wish they made the ultra in a 6" screen. Great review !

  • Love the camera! Especially the director's view and the vlog. I think someone who would like to begin a vlogging chanel can highly benefit from the capabilities of the 21 ultra. I love taking photographs, I like details and I'm considering this phone very seriously.

    • That's a good point regarding vlogging perhaps I should try that for the next video

  • Hey rob. My dad's gonna buy this S21 ultra and I like to click photos with smartphones. Thought this would be a big upgrade for the quality of my photos. Before this my dad had galaxy s9(which iss going to be mine now😉) .S9 still clicks decent shots. But really excited for the s21 ultra.Pls do more of these tutorial video as I would love to improve my photography skills Btw I subbed👍

  • I’ve been watching reviews all night for this phone! Due to preorder but I haven’t bit the bullet yet. For me this was the most informative as like a lot of people I’m mostly interested in the camera, although I’m only my kids personal photographer haha! Just wondered if this is good at taking great quality moving snaps, as you can imagine my subjects rarely stay still ? 😂 Thanks for the video!

    • Thank you! Haha I really think children are the true camera testers! If it can capture a child it’s a winner 😂 Unfortunately I can’t! We’re back in a whole national lockdown here again in the U.K. but thank you! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for your future videos on it!

    • I'll have to test that out for you give ma few years to have some kids :) haha The main camera is really fast so it can take photos wiht a fast shutter , being able to tap on the screen and "lock" the focus and exposure means the camera has less delay to take photos so perhaps that would help too. I'll try include this in a video, is it still possible to goto a store where you live? perhaps take the kids for a test shoot :)

  • The best phone camera review I've ever seen. Thanks for the tip with standing back and zooming in!

  • How do you split the focus and exposure out like that in Pro Mode? Love your vids!

    • Tap and hold it should pop up

  • You seem to be very impressed with the Camera features and I can see why. Look forward to seeing more . Thank you 👍

  • Super helpful for this first-time S21 Ultra user. The cameras are the reason I upgraded to this phone, but didn't know the details. Thanks for sharing.

  • A great overall coverage of the basics of what the S21Ultra can do. Liked and Subbed. I just got one of these beauties myself and although I'm nothing of a Pro photographers hangnail I'm eager to learn all I can to get the most out of this amazing piece of technology. Thanks Rob. I feel as though I'm going to learn so much from your videos. Locked and Loaded.

    • Amazing hows it going so far? had some nice things to take photos of?

  • Finally a good video for s21 ultra's camera!!👌Well done mate , greets from Greece 🇬🇷

    • Cheers glad you think it's a good first look! Can't wait to spend more time with it so I can try for some better shots

  • Great stuff mate! Subbed! I am a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra user and would love to try out your tips. It's really an amazing phone :)

  • Great Video mate, good to finally hear from an Australian reviewer, they are hard to find or I'm looking in the wrong place. Can't wait to get my hands on the 21 Ultra as you know the s20U Camera has too many focussing issues.

    • Hard to call my self a reviewer but yeah the community isn't huge! the new autofocus should be a big deal!

  • You are definitely doing some good and unique stuff here. Pretty well depicted. Subscribed!

    • oh thanks! hopefully I can continue, let me know if you want any thing covered in the next video.

  • RIP Other smartphone cameras I wish "Tech" reviewers could review the camera as you did

    • Huawei p40 pro plus and Google Pixel 5 are a beast

    • They can with more time but they also give more real world look. I was doing from a enthusiast perspective.

  • Fascinating. It’s even more fascinating knowing that the Huawei P30 Pro (released two years ago) can do everything the S21 Ultra can do. Congrats on the success of this video! I just started uploading tech videos too. I had to shoot the first few with the smartphones I have (P30 Pro/iPhone 8), but I’m getting a camera this week. :)

  • Main two things I learnt from this video 1. I gotta upgrade my S10 5G for S21 Ultra 2. Even though I'm living in Sydney for more than 4 years I've never been to any of these places other than harbourside. Anyway great job! Cheers mate! 🍻

  • Fantastic review as you actually demonstrate the phones capabilities rather than bleat about blah blah blah specs. Fabulous photos. Respect 🙌.

  • Can you do a comparison of the S20 Ultra Vs. S21 Ultra for Astrophotography? I’m curious if the improvements on the HM3 sensor are relevant. Love the videos, just subbed!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    • @Rob Mulally By all accounts the S20 amd S21 should have the best night mode with it having the biggest sensor of any phone for the US market. Iphone 12 has the new bigger sensor but they still don’t say the exact size, and the pixel still uses a 1/2.55 sensor. Quite frankly it all comes down to computational tricks, so hopefully Samsung learned a thing or two.

    • I KNEW someone would ask about that and don't worry I will! when the conditions are right. they did say its 108MP new generation chip AND I want to try the Wide angle DNG so its on my list.!

  • I'm looking forward to you doing a video on Pro Mode for the S21 Ultra!

    • I am too! Haha now that people are so interested!

  • You can't get better camera review then that on ILaward 😍😍

  • Great video and amazing pictures! I do a ton of photography too so I can't wait to get my hands on mine 🥰

    • @Rob Mulally nothing professional. Just landscapes..sun rises/sets..some night shots. They're mostly images everyone ignores when they walk past it. My profile picture is one of the sun rises i took in southern california

    • Awesome what do you like shooting?

  • This is great! Amazing photos! I am due for a new phone and have a trip to Hawaii coming up later this year. Would love a "how to" on using the camera app for taking good photos. I'm not a photographer but I want to take amazing pictures to save on my computer

  • I was really hoping it would record 4k 10bit HDR video. That's the most important feature i'm looking for!

    • Oh cool what do you usually film?

  • Ordered an Ultra based on the camera and stumbled across this video while research tips and tricks. Very informative, thanks!

  • As a casual user this is a killer camera I'm very impressed!

  • Very good review, keep it that way nice and simple, thank you a lot !

  • I just discovered your channel , this is the first video I've watched, it's really helpful thanks for your efforts hope you make more similar videos. You deserve a ( like ) and a ( subscribe) 🇩🇿

    • @Youcef Lakehal rjala zina

    • @Rob Mulally I hope you can make more tutorials on how to take photos with SG S21 Ultra. Good work! 🙂👍

    • @Rob Mulally Yes for sure I'm interested in Mobile photography, Drone photography, Gimbals... btw your videos are already useful. Im trying your tips after I watched the video

    • Very kind thanks! feedback welcomed as I want to make as many useful videos as possible! what other topics interest you? photography drones?

  • Great review. I would love a full in deepth tut on the pro camera settings

  • Well, impressive video. I've been looking at videos of this lately as I plan to use my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for ILaward, Website photos, Instagram and Vlogging. I'm currently looking at purchasing the Rode Wireless Go II with a lavalier mic. Have you made any more videos of how to use the phone's 4k features for video vlogging outdoors or just stationary ILaward talk videos?

    • I just ordered the Go II to i'll test it out! I also did a test Vlog yesterday that I might include in a future video I hope it looks good I haven't looked yet! But it might be HD not 4k

  • Great video Rob! Is the 100x zoom still just a gimmick or actually something which provides good shots?

    • I personally stick to the native zoom levels and crop after if i "need" to.

    • thats a good point

    • taking photos isn't only about social media......if you want to shoot some sudden event or incident,or maybe you need something to use as evidence ...it should come in handy

    • I agree I will be sticking to native 3x and 10x optical modes. I hate digital zoom

    • It's better, but still not usable as photegraph, it's not something you want to share on Ins, but it's useful if you want to see or read something far away.

  • Great video. I have an LG V50 I use for work and an LG V60 I use for personal. This video may have convinced me to upgrade the V50 to the S21 Ultra and make it my personal phone while the V60 I use for work (and I still have a headphone jack for audio if needed).

    • @Rob Mulally unfortunately most people don't know about the V60. Very underrated phone, especially for creating content. Great built in mics. Got to play with the S21 Ultra today. Lots of nice options in manual mode but the layout didn't feel intuitive but that could be because of what I am used to. It was nice to see a manual video mode with a good number of features. Keep up the good work!

    • I've done that for years having two phones, I don't know much about the LG V60 unfortunately to give any advice. sounds like the S21 V60 would be the perfect duo !

  • Exactly what I was looking for, AMAZING job
